Poetry

According to the definition at Dictionary.com poetry is –noun
the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, forexciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative,
or elevated thoughts.

To me poetry is a piece of writing that brings up a certain emotion in a person while the read the piece. Through poetry you can convey so many things sadness, happiness, anger, and so much more can be not only read and seen through poetry but felt through poetry.
A poetic device is a feature that can help a writer when writing poetry and can help their writing be stronger. Some of these include alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, repetition, long and short vowel sounds, consonants, consonance etc. I think the most interesting poetic device is probably onomatopoeia because I never really though there would be a word for sounds that truly do sound like the object that is making the sound, eg. CRACK! BOOM!, etc.
Below is a poem that I wrote a while and analyzed pointing out the different poetic devices that were in the poem:

Dies Young[ml1] [ml2]

If she dies young[ml3]

She’ll do it singing a love song[ml4]

Hopeless girl who never knew

What the price of risky love could really do

If she dies young

It’ll be cause to her, mama was always wrong

Telling her God[ml5] just wanted her to be strong

If she dies young [ml6]

Tell her that I [ml7] miss the way she sung

Miss the time that [ml8] from the tree branch we hung

Now she died young

To the bitter sweetness [ml9] of her love song

She was a girl who figured out

A little too late what risky love was all about

[ml1]Stanza

[ml2]The mood is sad and almost mourning.

[ml3]Repetition

[ml4]Euphony

[ml5]Allusion

[ml6]Rhyme

[ml7]Point of view: 1st

[ml8]Alliteration

[ml9]Oxymoron

The whole idea of this poem was trying to find that underlying meaning of the words, and when writing this poem the underlying meaning I was thinking of how the poem could talk about being physically abusive.

Glogster Book Report and Reflection

This is the link to my book report in Glogster format:
Glog Link

This is my Reflection:

In English during the month of November we were supposed to make a Glogster for a book we had read recently. The book I did was Impossible by Nancy Werlin, It is about a girl who has a curse upon her and is trying to lift it. The way I did this book repot was I first opened up a Word Document and wrote down all my information in that because this allowed me to use spell check and make sure that I had no flaws in the grammatical part of my Glogster Book Report. To find answers to the “guiding questions” I used a few sites which gave me information about the author, how many prizes did my book receive and what other books has my author written. Then after writing in all the information into a Word Document I then transferred it onto my Glogster. I then searched Youtube for some videos that would further explain my book. Something important though I had to do is read the book before all of these steps.
I thought that this project was actually quite fun to do because it allowed me to delve into the book and understand it more but in a somewhat fun way. I found it more interactive than just writing the standard book report and I found that I was able to use my creativity and discover new things. For example during this project I found out that my book in fact has its own commercial which I was able to use one the Glogster, but not only did I find one for myself but while searching for it I stumbled across one that was about my friends book and I showed it to her. This shows that this project also allows us to communicate with others and share ideas because you can learn a lot from your peers.
